FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Anemone nemorosa, Wood Anemone, Skógarsóley

Anemone nemorosa; The Wood Anemone is a low herb, the flowers reaching about 20cm high. Single-leaved stems with one terminal flower rise from running rootstocks. Also from these rootstocks rise single-leaves (root leaves).
  - Both root leaves and stem leaves are trifoliate palmatifid shaped, each leaflet deeply indented. The stem leaves have longer petioles under the leaflets. The stem leaves are considered to be a bract under the flower.
  - The flowers usually have 6 to 9 petals, white - sometimes reddish tainted.
  - It typically grows as an understory herb in forests. It is not an Icelandic species, only recently introduced. I saw it in the Höfdi park at Mývatn, where it had not been recorded before. It is also known from Ásbergi and a locality near Reykjavík. Icelandic botanists believe the species' colonization will persist.
  - It is member of the Ranunculaceae, the Buttercup family. The Icelandic name for this species is Skógarsóley.
