Neottia cordata (syn. Listera cordata); The lesser twayblade is a rather common orchid on Iceland. Having said this though, it is difficult to find because of its size but also because the inflorescence blends in perfectly in the vegetation. I hve rarely spotted this orchid while walking but more often when I would sit down somewhere and look around. It grows in heathers and scrubs in many regions of Iceland. It is much more common than its larger relative the Common Twayblade ( Neottia ovata).
It is a member of the Orchid family (Orchidaceae). The Icelandic name of this species is Hjartatvíblaðka.
