The grass family is a large family with many different species. In order to get a grip on this family they are often divided into 3 categories based on the structure of the inflorescence. They are the "panicle", the "spike-like panicle" and the true "spike" inflorescence forms. On Iceland, most species belong to the "panicle" types. Because this is such a large group I have split these in those with one to few flowered spikelets and those with many flowers (>4) in each spikelet.

Grass family 1: grasses with moree or less spreading panicles

Grass family 2: grasses with spike-like panicle inflorescences

Grass family 3: grasses with true spikes
