FLORA OF ICELAND elements: Picea sitchensis, Sitka Spruce, Sitkagreni

Picea sitchensis;  the Sitka Spruce is an introduced tree species with a typical cone-shaped appearance
The leaves (1-2½cm) are singly spaced along the branches. They have pointed apex's and two white stripes on both sides.
When ripe the female cones are rather long (4-10cm).
Next to forestation projects, it is planted near homesteads, in towns etc.
It is member of the Pinaceae, the Pine Family. The Icelandic name for this species is Sitkagreni.
